After visiting the caverns last year, we thought it would be interesting to go back this weekend after a heavy rain, in hopes of seeing some trickles in the caves.

Lassen, 8/29/14 - 9/1/14

8/29/14; Overnight stay in Red Bluff
8/30/14; Lassen National Park
Bumpass Hell; 3.0 miles
It has been a while since we've done any hiking. It felt good to finally be back outdoors and enjoying the beauty that nature brings. And what better way to have a refresher than to start at 8200 feet towards the smell of rotten eggs.
Terrace, Shadow, and Cliff Lakes; 3.1 miles
Manzanita Lake
8/31/14
Lassen National Park, Kings Creek Falls and Sifford Lake; 5.4 miles
Subway Cave Lava Tube; 0.6 miles
It was nice to get out of the sun for a while, and have fun with some light trails. The cave is pitch black away from the entrance and exit, so a flashlight is required.
9/1/14; Whiskeytown National Park
We had planned on attempting the Boulder Creek Falls trail again, this time without getting lost. However, the air was filled with a smokey haze, which I heard was from a fire in Siskiyou that had been burning a couple days ago. There was also a fire in Weaverville a week ago. After smelling the faint odor of smoke, we decided not to inhale the polluted, and cancelled the hike. We headed home early, but not before checking out the Oak Bottom Marina.
